Wonderful Waiheke Womens Dinner

Kia ora e te whānau o W3 – we have one more event for 2022 which will be a night of intrigue!

We love nothing more than celebrating our Waiheke wāhine toa. Descending from Ngāti Hako and Ngāti Pāoa, Jeanine Clarkin is one of the mana whenua on Waiheke Island, where she has resided for the past 18 years. Jeanine is known around the world as a champion of indigenous Māori fashion having shown her collections in Sydney, Melbourne, Samoa, Hawaii, Geneva, Saskatoon, London and Paris including a presentation at Musée du Quai Branly as part of their Oceania exhibition in 2019.

She launched her 2023 range in Paris recently, despite her luggage, including all of her collection, going missing on the way over!

When she started in 1994, her intention was to provide young urban Māori with clothes that they could wear to express who they were. Her design story is one that ranges from streetwear to haute couture and slow fashion. Her work continues to be deeply rooted in mātauranga Māori (knowledge/wisdom) which includes a commitment to sustainable practice.

Jeanine is an active member of the Waiheke community and is on the steering group for the Waiheke Marine Project. Her goal is to create positive opportunities in which we can empower mana whenua to embody and activate this space for the future generations.

Jeanine will share her recent Paris Fashion Show adventure with us, her experience of the Queen’s funeral and her hope for sustainable fashion. There will be an opportunity to see some of Jeanine’s fashion range as well!

There will also be an opportunity for anyone attending to jump up and share something they think the W3 whānau would be interested in knowing, see below.

We look forward to seeing you, raising a glass to a happy and healthy summer as W3 wraps up for 2022.

THE DETAILS:

Venue: Thomas's Bach restaurant at Batch Winery

Date: Tuesday 22nd November 2022

Start time: 5.45pm arrive, register and networking, a glass of bubbles or wine on arrival

Dinner: 6.15-7pm-ish - Dinner will be served to the tables in a sharing style (see menu below)

Speaker: 7pm-7.45 - Jeanine Clarkin

Dessert 7.45 - Dessert will be served to the tables in a sharing style (see menu below)

7.45-8pm – what is happening on the island? A chance to jump up for one minute and let people know what is going on and if you need any support! Keep it brief!

You are able to leave any time after the speaker has concluded but we hope you will stay for Batch’s incredible desserts!

Mains – sharing style

• New Zealand lamb rump, caramelised witlof, salsa verde AND

• Seared fish of the day, caper AND

• Gnocchi, pumpkin, rocket, walnut, pesto AND

• Sides of green leaf salad and honey roasted carrots, walnut, yogurt

Dessert – sharing style

• Batch’s famous pavlova | mascarpone, berry compote and passionfruit AND

• Chocolate lava cake with mascarpone cream and raspberries

RSVP: Batch is so supportive of W3. As usual they are accommodating to the different dietary requirements. When you purchase your tickets online, you MUST provide any dietary requirements in the spaces provided. Please note given the staff shortages on the island the RSVP date for this event will close earlier than usual and W3 numbers will be lower so that Batch is able to deliver the food at their usual standard. If you want to attend this event, please do not delay securing your ticket.
